Tendonitis

Tendonitis is an inflammation (-itis) of a tendon.  A tendon is a thick fibrous cord that attaches a muscle to a bone.  An example would be the Achilles tendon that attaches the calf muscles (Gastrocnemius and Soleus) to the heel (calcaneus) portion of the foot.

Tendonitis can occur in any tendon but it usually occurs in the extremities: upper extremity at the shoulder, elbow, wrist, hand and fingers or the lower extremity at the hip, knee, ankle or foot.  Many times it will take the name of the body part involved, such as Achilles tendonitis or patellar tendonitis.

Tendonitis is commonly thought to be caused by a muscle strain.  There are times that it can be caused by not enough blood supply.  Fascial adhesions can also affect the tendon as they can apply a constant and forceful pull on the attachment.

Tendonitis causes inflammation, swelling and stiffness in the tendon.  Tendonitis can range from mild to serious.  With mild tendonitis rest and a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory medication will do the trick within a few weeks.  It is with chronic tendonitis that the concern grows.  Inflammation causes continued damage to the area and extended use of an anti-inflammatory has side effects that most people would like to avoid.

If the chronic tendonitis is instigated by fascial adhesions and restriction it will not heal much with rest and it will keep coming back.  The vascular system runs through the fascia and the fascial restrictions and adhesions can reduce the blood flow to an area.  These need to be released to relieve chronic tendonitis.

With the ReCAPS System™, we have the techniques that will increase the blood flow while decreasing the inflammation.  It does not matter where the tendonitis is or how long you have had it, the pain can and will be resolved.
